The congress with the general theme of The value is underground highlighted the latent value of underground space as a means of developing living spaces and the symbiosis between ground-level and underground. Also focused on the abundance of, and the necessity of interweaving know-how and disciplines that are crucial to provide those spaces with a sustainable life.
ITA COSUF managed to bring the operational issues on the table, and organised also a round table discussions after the technical session. The round table aimed at enhancing discussions between experts about complex underground hubs with questions raised at each step of the lifecycle starting from design up to operational phase including upgrading concerns. The goal for the session was to share between infrastructure owners, operators, fire brigades, policemen, rescue services, engineers and companies good examples, encountered difficulties, needs for improvement and new solutions for complex underground hubs.
The audience included AFTES delegates, members of ITA COSUF and others that have an interests in operational and safety issues. The operational issues had quite a large interests and ITA COSUF received good feedback from the audience.
ITA COSUF arranged also general assembly and activity group meetings in connection with the congress.
