Road tunnels and technology in an operational perspective
Arild Petter Sovik, Tunntech Global News

Tunnel management on the agenda in Brussels

Written by  Nov 28, 2018

This conference focused on tunnels as a vital links in any transportation network. Short periods of closure for maintenance or repairs always generate nuisance. Long periods of closure for renovations will logically lead to severe congestions. For too long, the tunnel community has accepted this nuisance and chaos as a natural side effect of tunnel operations. Should we accept this?

The Beyond A Tunnel Vision conference challenge these old paradigms and move beyond our current, rather narrow, tunnel vision on the management and maintenance of these critical infrastructural assets. The conference highlighted among other things the use of digital tools, methods and mindset, and this well performed conference gave several examples of best practices.

KPT

The Knowledge Platform for Tunnel Safety (KPT) is the one-stop shop for questions about tunnel safety in the Netherlands. The platform shares existing Dutch and foreign knowledge of tunnel safety in a low-threshold and proactive way with all persons and organizations professionally involved with tunnels and tunnel safety. The KPT is independent, works in a transparent manner and is interconnected between knowledge institutions, users and sources of knowledge.
